Some Internet marketers don’t understand the importance of keyword density when they’re trying to do search engine optimization. All keyword density means is the number of times your keywords are repeated in a particular piece of content. When the search engines send their spiders crawling for content they check to see what the keyword density is. If you have too little your content will have a hard time being picked up by the search engines and your hard work will be wasted. So I’m going to give you a few tips so that you understand exactly what keyword density is and why you must utilize it in your Internet marketing efforts.

What keyword density?

I already explained the basics in the opening paragraph, but just to further elaborate, keyword density contributes to the relevance of your particular piece of content. When the search engines come around looking at websites when the search has been done, it probably won’t be enough just to have your primary keyword repeated just once or twice. Usually though having the keyword mentioned once in the title and in the opening sentence or paragraph of your content will be enough that the search engines should pick it up. Adding it just a few more times, especially in the last paragraph should serve you well.

Why you don’t want to overload:

Some search engines, especially Google will penalize you if you have a search engine density that is over two percent. They do is to prevent people from just creating content and loading it up with keywords just so that the search engines will pick it up. That is why you want to always make sure you keep your keyword density at 2% or less. This means 10 times or less for piece of content of 500 words. As long as you mentioned your keywords in the headline and in the first paragraph, there should be no problem with your content getting picked up by the search engines.

The importance of search engine traffic:

When your articles are optimized for keywords and the search engines are able to pick them up, you would get natural search engine traffic to your website. Depending on the popularity of your particular keyword you will have to spend some time building links for that keyword so that you get a high ranking. If you’re able to do this right you should realize a pretty good flow of search engine traffic for your keywords. From there you just want to add more keywords so that your search engine traffic increases.

Now you understand what keyword density is. You know the reasons why you don’t want to overdo it because you’ll be penalized, you understand that it can help you get natural search engine traffic, and you understand just what percentage you should go for when optimizing your content. Take this knowledge and put it to good use to begin to see some of that natural search engine traffic to your websites and sales pages.
